German Special Interest Group
In addition to Family History, from time to time the Society also forms other various Special Interest Groups (SIGs).
Our German Special Interest Group, which first met in 2011, is currently the most active SIG.
The aims of our German Special Interest Group are:
- To provide a forum for members of the Ku-ring-gai Historical Society who have German ancestors, or with an interest in the history of the Germanic peoples, to meet, discuss and provide mutual assistance in their research.
- To learn about the history of the Germanic peoples and immigration, and why our German ancestors chose to come to Australia.
- To undertake various related projects. One of these projects, commenced in 2017, is to publish a record of the German Ancestors of Ku-ring-gai Historical Society members. This is a work in progress, to which members are encouraged to contribute.
Our German SIG meets bi-monthly at 1.30 pm on the second Monday of February, April, June, August, October and December, except public holidays.
When a public holiday falls on the second Monday, that month’s meeting will be moved to a date mutually acceptable to most members of the SIG.
Visitors are welcome to join our convivial (and sometimes noisy) atmosphere! To continue to participate in our SIGs, you will need to join the Ku-ring-gai Historical Society.
Meetings are held in our rooms in the Old Gordon Public School building. Please see our Contact page for location details.
