The Historian

The Historian is the Society’s annual journal, which began publication in 1972. Each volume is a major research work, containing detailed articles on Ku-ring-gai’s history – a valuable resource for anyone undertaking research on the history of Ku-ring-gai.

We are excited to announce that the latest volume has now been published after a production delay of three years due to the pandemic.

Volume 48 is all about Roseville and its development, including significant houses and buildings, founding forefathers, land grants, schools, churches, hospitals and much more, all with accompanying photos. This volume marks the conclusion of our editions covering all of Ku-ring-gai’s suburbs – but while it is the last, it’s certainly not the least, coming in at 154 pages.

All members have now received their complimentary copy. Non-members who wish to purchase a copy (and members who would like extra copies) may do so by using the form below, or by popping in to our Research Rooms at Gordon during our opening hours, 10am to 2pm on Tuesdays or Fridays. The price is still $20 per copy, plus $6 postage if required.

Each year, the current issue of The Historian is provided free of charge to all members of the Society. Articles typically cover local history, family history, pioneers, built heritage (property history), land grants and much more. Over recent years, The Historian has also included extensive reviews of the early development of parts of Ku-ring-gai, together with narratives of the people who lived at those locations, and the lives they led.

The Historian is published based upon research undertaken by our members throughout that year, guided by an editorial group that advises and supervises the research. Would you like to participate in this research?¬†We’d love you to join in – so if you have a keen interest, please get in touch!
